PRINCIPAL'S WELCOME

Welcome to Unity East! Whether this is your first child to attend or the youngest of many, we are happy to have you and your soon-to-be Kindergartener as members of our school.

We aim for your child to have an enjoyable and productive Kindergarten year that builds a strong foundation for their academic career.

The teachers and I consider it a privilege to work with the children in our school. We look forward to a positive and rewarding school year with our new Kindergarten class!

In partnership,

WELCOME TO KINDERGARTEN AT UNITY EAST!

If you have a child who will be joining us for Kindergarten in the fall, please complete the following survey.

Information from the survey will allow us to contact you with Kindergarten information and add your child to our Kindergarten lists. Please contact the school office for any questions.

KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION

Kindergarten Orientation Night will be held at Unity East on Monday, March 25 from 6-7pm.

Meet our Kindergarten teachers and office staff, tour classrooms, and find out how you can help your child prepare for his or her first day as a Unity Rocket!

KINDERGARTEN SCREENINGS

Kindergarten Screenings will be held at Unity East on Wednesday, May 8

Please use this link to sign up for a screening appointment.

At the screening, students are given basic assessments to determine their strengths by one of our Kindergarten teachers. These assessments include letter and number identification, letter sounds, and counting objects. The results help teachers plan their instruction at the start of the year based on each student’s needs.

All families can complete the guardianship requirement by bringing birth certificates and the parent/guardian photo ID.

  • If you do not already have a certified copy of your child’s birth certificate, obtain a certified copy from the County Clerk's Office (located at 1776 E. Washington Street, Urbana) or from the county the child was born in.

New families can verify residency by bringing their required documents(see list here)

REGISTRATION

Registration for the 2024-25 school year will take place July 31 & August 1

Kindergarten families who have not already turned in birth certificates and/or residency paperwork are asked to schedule an in-person registration appointment to complete paperwork.

Kindergarten is open to students turning 5 on or before Sept. 1, 2024

KINDERGARTEN CONFERENCES

Each year we dedicate the first two days of school to Kindergarten Conferences. Parents will sign up for a 20-min conference that allows them and their child an opportunity to meet the teacher, tour the classroom, and get acquainted before students attend their first day of school.

Parents and guardians will sign up for a conference using an online link that will be emailed out after registration.

Kindergarten conferences are scheduled for August 14 & 15.

The first day of school for Kindergarten students is Friday, August 16.
